Background

This assignment was to show the juxtaposition or interaction between the man-made and the natural world.

Sketches

The topic I chose was on how microplastics are in the human body and in the food we eat.
Sketch 1: a stomach full on plastic waste
Sketch 2: a heart with microplastics in the bloodstreams
Sketch 3: a person eating plastic

Storyboard

The second sketch was chosen as it best portrayed the topic. The storyboard was straight forward, a heart beating with microplastics moving in the bloodstream.

Value + Color studies

Value and color studies. I decided to use actual image of plastics to contrast with the drawing of the heart. The last color palette was chosen since it showed that the body might not be in the best condition and something is wrong. It also contrasts with the microplastics, which are colorful, vibrant, and artificial.

Final

I placed a texture over the heart to experiment, and I liked how it made the heart look in worse condition. I feel it made the plastics stand out more.
